CAS NO.: 584-08-7
EINECS NO.: 209-529-3
Synonyms:Potassium carbonate anhydrous
Chemical formulate: K2CO3
Potassium carbonate is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula K2CO3 and a molecular weight of 138.206. It is a white crystalline powder with a density of 2.428g/cm3 and a melting point of 891 ℃. Easy to dissolve in water, the aqueous solution is alkaline, and insoluble in ethanol, acetone, and ether. Highly hygroscopic, able to absorb carbon dioxide and moisture when exposed to air, converted into potassium bicarbonate, and should be sealed in packaging.
Potassium carbonate is one of the important basic inorganic chemical, pharmaceutical, and light industrial raw materials, mainly used in the production of optical glass, welding electrodes, electronic tubes, television picture tubes, light bulbs, printing and dyeing, dyes, inks, photographic drugs, foam alkali, polyester, explosives, electroplating, leather making, ceramics, building materials, crystals, potassium soap, and pharmaceuticals. Used as a gas adsorbent, dry powder fire extinguishing agent, and rubber anti-aging agent. It is also used to remove carbon dioxide from fertilizer synthesis gas. It can also be used as a potassium containing fertilizer. With the continuous development of high-tech, the application of potassium carbonate in washing aids, monosodium glutamate, food and other fields is also expanding.
Used in glass, printing and dyeing, soap, enamel, preparation of potassium salt, ammonia decarbonylation, also used in color TV industry, mainly used in food as leavening agent
